Enterprise legacy modernization

Legacy system modernization for mainframe, monolith and COBOL estates

Dedicated engineering pods that assess, refactor and migrate business-critical systems to the cloud in small, tested steps, with old and new running side by side.

  • Assessment first, a written roadmap before any migration
  • Mainframe, COBOL, AS/400, monoliths and databases
  • Mutual NDA available before you share code

Why legacy system modernization stalls

Most stalled programs share one cause: nobody can say what the old system does. Business rules sit in COBOL copybooks, batch jobs and stored procedures written by people who have moved on, and the only complete specification is the running code.

A full rewrite has to rediscover all of that before it can switch anything off. An incremental approach does it in slices. You route one function to new code, compare its output with the old system and keep a rollback point. This reduces risk. It does not remove it.

What we cover

Each area has its own page.

  • Legacy applications

Rehost, replatform, refactor, rebuild or retire, decided system by system.

  • Mainframe and COBOL

Move batch and online workloads off z/OS in controlled steps, with tests around current behavior.

  • AS/400 and IBM i

Bring RPG applications and their data to current web and cloud platforms.

  • Cloud migration

Move enterprise applications to AWS, Azure or Google Cloud with a rehearsed cutover.

  • Monoliths and databases

Split by bounded context, and move Oracle or DB2 data with reconciliation checks.

  • Audit and assessment

A fixed-scope review that ends in a written risk list and phased roadmap.

How an engagement runs

Each step ends with a reviewable result.

1

Send the request

Tell us what the system does, what it runs on and what you want to change.

2

We assess

We review code, data and integrations, then write down risks, options and a phased roadmap.

3

Pilot one slice

One small, real piece is migrated and run next to the old system to test the approach.

4

Migrate in phases

The rest moves in controlled steps with rollback points. The old system is retired only after your team accepts the results.

When not to modernize

Some systems should stay where they are. A stable mainframe program with a clear owner and a low change rate may be better retained and wrapped with an API. A rarely used tool may simply be retired. If the real constraint is staffing or contracts, moving code will not fix it.

The seven Rs on our legacy application modernization page describe these choices. We would rather tell you a system does not need a rewrite than sell you one.

Confidentiality and your security rules

A mutual NDA can be signed before any code or data is shared. Work follows your own security controls and compliance obligations. Your auditors set the rules and we align to them.

A good first step is the legacy code audit. You can also read how we work. Please do not send secrets with a first request.

Questions from engineering leaders

What does legacy system modernization include?

It covers anything from moving an application to new infrastructure, through refactoring code and splitting a monolith, to replacing or retiring components. We assess first, then recommend the lightest option that solves your actual problem, which is often a mix of several.

Do you rewrite everything from scratch?

Usually not. A full rewrite concentrates risk into one cutover. We prefer to migrate in slices, run old and new side by side and keep rollback points. Some components are still best rebuilt, and we will say so after the assessment.

Can the old system keep running during migration?

Yes, and that is the normal approach. The old system stays in production while the new one is tested against it, for example with a parallel run that compares outputs. It is switched off only after your team accepts the results.

How is pricing set?

There is no public price list because scope, systems and compliance needs differ. Every engagement starts with a written scope and quote that you approve before work begins. Shapes include a fixed-scope audit, a modernization pod and a phased migration program.

How do we get started?

Send the request form or message us on WhatsApp with what the system does, what it runs on and what you want to change. We reply by email or WhatsApp with clarifying questions, and can sign a mutual NDA first.

Describe your system

Use the request form for a structured brief, or message us on WhatsApp if that is quicker. A short description is enough to start.

What to send

  • What the system does for the business
  • Platforms and languages involved
  • Rough size and age
  • When you hope to start
